Myrrh is used for its sedative effect, where its woody balsamic note provides an exotic oriental fragrance. Myrrh is produced from the "tears" that are exuded by the bark of the tree. This gum is collected by hand, which explains why the material is so precious. Myrrh is anti-inflammatory, mildly astringent and antibacterial.
